Heck, I knew I was missing something! Went to the Sultan of Smoke and had the worst, the very worst, BBQ I’ve ever eaten. As soon as I walked in I should have known. It smelled like the coals of a campfire right after you put it out. With water, guys, OK? An acrid, heavy smoke smell. Not appetizing. And that is the way it tasted too. Plus the meat was incredibly dry and utterly without savor, although remaining, again, weirdly tender, because dry usually means tough. How they accomplished that I cannot imagine. I got ribs, brisket and pit ham, because I had never had pit ham and envisioned yummy strips from off the bone. Nope. It was a deli ham and it was awful. The young ladies at the counter were so cute and nice, I had to sneak my plate into the garbage. Didn’t eat nearly any of it. Really awful.
