I’m originally from Connecticut, and for years I’ve tried to make burgers – just the way they make them at Louie’s Lunch in New Haven. Here’s what I’ve come up with.1. Use GROUND CHUCK, form into uniform 1/4 lb patties and then salt and pepper each patty.
2. Cut uniform slices of "white onion" for each of the patties.
3. Grill the patties on a portable gas grill (without any coals or brickettes).
4. Toast PEPPERIDGE FARM WHITE BREAD – 2 for each burger and slather a generous portion of KRAFT CHEEZE WIZ on each slice of toast.
5. After turning the burgers on the grill (only once) place the slice of onion on each burger and grill until medium rare.
6. Slice tomatoes for each burger.
7. Assemble the burger and slice diagonally – DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT USING KETCHUP!If you’ve enjoyed a famous burger from Louie’s Lunch in New Haven, I think you’ll find that this is a pretty darn close in taste! Enjoy

I grew up eating at Louis’ Lunch and I cannot understand why anyone would want to recreate one of its hamburgers, unless for the sake of nostalgia. Now the steak sandwiches at Louis’ are another story.
