I would let it go a minute or so before stirring, but most of the time stirring, and laughing at my father while he cut the onions up. I told him I was going to get even with him, so I made him chop up the onions.
As far as the categories, there were 2. Professional & Non-Professional. Which is better than when we first started doing this, everyone for themselves.
So you were competing against restaurants and professional cooks [:(] So guess who took the top spots the first 5 years.
Then they decided to have 2 categories, and things have went much better each year.
As far as all seafood winning, MB is a small fishing town, right on the coast, so that tends to sway the judges.
I do get more comments about having no seafood, and people search out the non seafood entries.
I shouldn’t complain to much, I avoided a major ice storm, cooked 7 gallons of my best gumbo ever, sold out of those 7 gallons in less than 2 hours, got to see many friends and made some new ones, made this little boy named luke’s day by giving him about 30 strands of beads to wear, had fun in doing all of the above.
