I best remember my mother and maternal grandmother (Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry) for baked pies and chicken dumplings. I best remember my dad for stew (Virginia/Kentucky/southern Indiana). I made an adaption of the stew my dad used to make and posted it here a while back. I had to get the recipe from my cousins as it was long lost for me.

I find the same with clothing: what you can tell about a person from what they wear, also including regions (ie- cowboy boots in Southwest, "black" in NYC)
