We’ve had our Barrel no.51 BBQ concession trailer in operation about two months now, and have struggled to find a spot that would consistently pay the wage and food costs plus give us profit growth. We’d have a terrific day, and the next would be nothing. We serve hot dogs, pulled pork, Halibut (we’re in WA and you HAVE to serve some kind of seafood),sloppy joes and the usual fries and cole slaw. We’d built up a regular following that would hit us three four times a week, but that still wasn’t enough to make much more than our expenses. Then again the amount of rain we’ve had in the PNW has been murder on our business.
but now we’ve hit some great weather, and we spent yesterday at a city park in Lakewood. The temp hit 92, and we sold a ton of ice cream, beverages and hot dogs. We did more sales in one day than we normally do in three. So, for the rest of the summer, as long as the weather holds, we’ll be back to American Lake……of course there are other benefits such as bikini…I mean PEOPLE watching. That’s just another great side benefit of our type of business.
