I was just reading a book about New Jersey that said all the old ice cream parlors (with the good sundaes, sodas, etc.) were established by German immigrants. Thinking back, yes, lots if these places I know in the NY area have German names: Jentz, Jahn’s Hirsch’s, Hicks’, Holstein’s, Greatner’s.

Now, I don’t remember many ice cream parlors in my trips to current day Germany, but I wonder if this is true. Do the old fashioned big name places near you have German names?
