My friend Don and I were drawn by hunger to a Bailey’s Restaurant billboard as we tooled through West Tennessee along I-40. Exit 108. To discover Bailey’s has a 24/7 buffet and some of the best comfort food I’ve had since I left my home in that area 50 years ago. Snap peas cooked with pork fat! Chicken and dumplings (albeit slightly doughy). Stewed tomatoes. The best meatloaf since my grandmother’s – spiced to a fine taste. No-sugar cornbread (which has become harder and harder for me to find nowadays) and peach cobbler that was sweet enough. Other stuff which was okay. But I’d rate Bailey’s 8 for its meatloaf, snap peas and peach cobbler! I highly recommend it.
