OK, I had to do it. Let the cheese haters have their own thread.
I was born and raised in Monroe, WI, which is in the cheesiest county of the cheesiest state in the US. My dad was a milk hauler for 40 years, delivering milk from the dairy farms to the cheese factories. He always brought cheese home directly from the factories. I grew up on great cheese. To this day, my parents still keep the fridge stocked. If I go to visit them, one of the first things out of my mom’s mouth is "Do you want some cheese?".
I could go on and on about my history and love affair with cheese, but I thought it would be more interesting to just list some of my favorites from Green County and SW Wisconsin:
Gruyere, Dill Havarti – Roth Kase, Monroe, WI http://www.rothkase.com/
Wheel Swiss – Edelweiss Creamery, Monticello, WI http://www.edelweisscreamery.com/
Wild Morel and Leek Jack – Meister Cheese, Muscoda, WI http://www.meistercheese.com/
Pleasant Ridge Reserve – Uplands Cheese, Dodgevile, WI http://www.uplandscheese.com/
Fresh cheese curds – Brunkow Cheese, Darlington, WI
Breaded curds – Swiss Heritage Cheese, Monticello, WI
There are many many more. Anyone else have any favorites?
