Holiday weekend hot dog sales, so I bought some Sahlen’s, some Bests, and some Nathan’s.
I tried the Sahlen’s and the Bests both grilled and boiled, and I grilled the Nathan’s.
Sahlen’s (natural casing) grilled: eh. Grilling toughened the skin to chewiness. They were a little bland.
Sahlen’s boiled: better. Still a little bland, but a good dog.
Best’s grilled: Same result; I could hardly bite through the skin.
Best’s boiled: not bad, pretty decent. Skin was still a bit thick.
Nathan’s: Well I’ve had these before, so I guess it’s a ringer, but a grilled Nathan’s dog is just right for me.
I dunno, I know everyone has their favorites. I wouldn’t buy the Sahlen’s or Best’s again, but I’m sure others think that there are none better.
