In recent action the US congress has signed the death warrant for the Delta Queen.
For those wo don’t live alond a river that this majestic boat silently glides past, you do really miss something.
I greww up yards from the Ohio River, and in my childhood the Delta would start playing her Caliope about my house and continue to play it until she was well up river of town.
Looking out and seeing that beautiful ship glide passed with the gentle sound of the paddle wheels sloshing water.
I could always imagine Mark Twain floating past getting inspired to write Tom Sawyer of Huck Finn.
One summer day when I was 7 yrs old the Delta tied up in our town to take on fresh water, and to let the passengers off to stretch their legs.
One of those passengers who got off that day was "Grandpa Walton". He sat on the banks of the river and played his banjo, sang and told stories.
Somewhere in my albums of photos as a child there is a picture of the two of us.
This is a great piece of history, and if something is not done will be relished to the life of a museum, or worse.
You can links to the above site to see what is going on, with the effort to try and save the piece of American History.
