Rain in the midwest. At the last minute, it kind cleared up, so I took off. Original plans was to operate 10-2. Got there about 11:30 and stayed until 2:30. I did…………..$45.50! Okay, I didn’t kill em but got a lot of comments asking if I was going to be there everyday. Hope to do $70 tomorrow, just a target. BTW’ I predicted $50 1st day, so I wasn’t too disappointed. Located 35 ft. from main door to city hall. Was GREAT to get started. It seemed so natural, I like people and had a ball talking to everyone including the non-customers. As far as operations go, except for a couple of things, it went pretty well. I’m a detail person and thought I had most things covered, not so. I hadn’t thought where I was going to keep my buns. Believe it or not, buns will smash if you’re not careful! Another problem I have to work out-After my dogs were cooked and I put them in steam table along side buns, couldn’t keep them at 141 degrees without getting buns too damp. Another dumb move, I was selling for about an hour and realized I wasn’t handing out my buy 10/get one free punch cards, duh. Also, using tongs and grabbing a bun, putting it on a wrap, prying open and inserting the dog seems like such an easy thing, I’d hope to look a little more professional doing it, but I wasn’t, more like a spasmatic orangatang! All in all I enjoyed finally getting on the streets. One last story. A lady that works inside commented that she really liked my cart and we have to let everybody know about it. I agreed and asked if she knew anybody at the local newspaper. She said unfortunately no. I then said I would buy her hot dog if she would call them when she got back to her desk and tell them that there was a hot dog cart in front of city hall. 15 minutes later a lady reporter and her cameraman showed up and spent 45 minutes hanging around. She said to look for something in the paper wednesday or thursday. Earlier I had posted a message on here saying I thought this kind of exposure was available. It was nice to set an example on my first day. Of course, it may never make print, but if it does I’ll post the link. Well, that was my first day, I don’t know if you can tell I am pumped. I plan to post my experiences for the first five days and then I’ll keep quiet. One down, four to go! And if I only do $25 tomorrow, I’ll be honest and tell you. Thanks everyone for helping get here.
