This is just my view, My experiences of selling hot dogs. I welcome everyone who sells food, dogs, to chime in and share the same.
First off, You will NOT make a million dollars selling hot dogs. If you think that you will make tons & tons of money. Be prepared for a possible disappointment. I’m not saying it’s not possible because it is absolutely 100% possible.
You will scope out spots, Think you have the best spot in the world until the other vendor comes back from vacation. LOL
You will be run out by the police, not because they don’t have anything else better to do, but b/c someone complained about you. Most of them will let you finish out your line before making you shut down. That’s my experience at least.
You will have alot of waste your first month, first week, or maybe not. It all depends on how quickly you will adapt to the wave of customers, and remember they are not predictable like the weather. ( well, maybe that’s an overstatement about the weather )
I have been cussed out, threatened, and harassed by other vendors for being too close to them, near them, or even blocks away from them. 101 feet away from them & any other food place is 100% acceptable. Don’t be timid, be firm, Don’t take no crap from them. Everyone is afraid of competition, ( well those who suck at selling food do at least)
Be personable. Having a sense of humor and being able to entertain people will get you further than you could ever imagine. Doesn’t matter if you sell the same food as the guy behind you. They will come to you because they like you. Not your food.
Use & learn the ability, power of the search option. The innerweb is your friend. Don’t blow into a forum and ask simple questions. They’ve already been addressed. Search it out. It’s not hard to do. That way you don’t piss off the natives, and they will most likely help you out down the road.
If you are thinking twice about getting into this business… Think again. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had. Make decent money & business is growing every day. It won’t happen over night. It takes time for people to know you, where you are, what your food tastes like, and get comfortable with you. Alot of people are abrehensive about eating from carts. Keep it clean, Keep it simple, and put on the show. You will not be disappointed at all.
Most importantly, once your committed to this business and you make your purchase for your cart of whatever. Remember to do one thing, Do it for me, Do it for yourself. Rip off the rear view mirror in your mind, AND NEVER LOOK BACK !!!
