For those of you that built your own food truck or trailer, would you do it again?
Did you learn any lessons that you care to pass along? Code related issues will be different for each sate/county/city.
What was your motivation for building your own instead of buying something already made?
Here is my situation. I have realized that a food truck is a better bet for me for many reasons and I would like to see about building my own truck. Complete with some sort of layout with the following equipment, fryer, grill, flat top, fridge/freezer, cold sandwich prep area, sinks, vent hood, fire suppression system, and maybe other things. One of the questions I have is how do you mount this equipment? I am guessing some sort of wall rail mounting system so the equipment can be removed if need be. The fryer, do they make any with some sort of containment lid? I see some people that move locations twice in one day and I am sure they don’t want the oil sloshing around.
I am also considering a used food truck and have found a few in and around my area but also wanted to explore the idea of building my own. I am very handy and can do this with the right information. How handy am I? Well back in the the 90’s I rehabbed homes from top to bottom doing all the work myself. I did do a short stint in the construction business in 2003 and got out right before the bottom dropped out.
So for those of you that have done this, is it worth it and would you do it again?
I will continue to research on my own as well. Thanks in advance for your help and information.
