For years my favorite cookie has been Nabisco’s Pinwheel. You know, the luxurious dark chocolate-covered peaky marshmallow cookie that cost $6 bucks for a package of 12. I didn’t get them very often, but when I wanted to splurge, they were a go-to. Earlier this week Mrs. Treetop got me a pack for my birthday, as she usually does. I noticed immediately there was new packaging. Uh-oh. Then I saw the dreaded “New Recipe!” Double Uh-oh. A closer examination revealed the most disturbing change of all – what had previously been “Pure Chocolate and Marshmallow” was now “Fudge and Marshmallow.” WTF(udge)? Suffice to say that what had been an iconic example of chocolate deliciousness is now a “mockolate” monstrosity worthy only of the garbage can. Not sure who the marketing genius was that came up with this idea, or if it had anything to do with Nabisco sending its bakery south of the border, but whatever the case, Pinwheels as we knew and loved them are no more. RIP. dear friend.
