Pho Please

Review by: Sara Griffith Dawson

Located in an unassuming shopping center, Pho Please appears to be nothing too special. But two things bring customers through the door: word-of-mouth (that’s how we found it) and a long line that snakes throughout the waiting area, causing onlookers to wonder what all the fuss is about. The fuss is about excellent Vietnamese meals.

Ordering at the counter, we start with an order of crab rangoon that turns out to be superior to most. They’re impossibly crunchy and stuffed with soft cream cheese, bits of fresh green onion, and flavorful imitation crab meat. The only possible improvement is a dunk in Pho Please’s tangy sweet and sour sauce.

Egg rolls are served hot and crisp, packed full of fresh ingredients such as pork, carrots, taro, clear noodles & eggs. Again, sweet and sour sauce is their best friend.

When the bowls of pho arrive, we grab chopsticks and soup spoons and dive in. They are made with rich broth, rice noodles, and your choice of fresh protein, if desired. (We were delighted with rare steak and brisket.) They’re topped with juicy red & white onion slivers, fresh cilantro and diced green onion . Each bowl is also served with a side of bean sprouts, jalapeños, basil, and lime to be mixed in as you like it.

When you enter, the restaurant feels laid-back and comforting, sporting warm wood tones throughout, dangling soft lights, and pure white tables.

Pho Please brings freshness to your table and leaves you feeling full and satisfied. It’s a comfortable, laid back restaurant sporting warm wood tones, dangling soft lights, and pure white tables. Needless to say, we’ll definitely be back (and spreading the word to our fellow Austinites).
