the ancient mariner
I am back in Greenwich, Ct for a short time and was invited to brunch at the Silvermine Tavern. It is an old tavern from 1700 something, (I was more concerned with the building itself and the food to remember the date.) But it is a great old building sitting on a hill over a river just north of Norwalk. You can eat indoors or, out on the deck over the water. Brunch was $21.99 and contained
an awesome selection of great food.
I am a breakfast person so I was in line so often the management lost money on me—but the lovely Mary Ann is a breakfast skipper sooo we averaged out.
Start with mimosa’s or champagne then fruit salad and lox and bagels and crepes and pancakes and french toast and hash with poached eggs , and scrambled and bacon and sausage and chipped beef on toast and eggs benedict on English Muffins and all kinds of fancy muffins and sweet buns and coffee and , and on and on——— in NYCity the mimosa with lox and bagels would be about $50—this was a real bargain—and delicious and so picturesque.
Add to this they have a number of Jazz groups entertaining 3 or 4 nights a week and this is a place worth noting.
Recommended by the Ancient Mariner who doesn’t recommend many places. Bon Appetit, Manga, manga and forget the diet this is as good as it gets.
