I’m looking into buying a refurbished iPad to keep on my truck, just for square. I’m looking at 2 models and looking for advice. I’ve never owned an apple product and don’t know a whole lot about the differences between ipad 1 and 2. I’m looking at 2 models basically: Refubished ipad 1 16GB wifi and refub’d ipad 2 16gb wifi. I’m mainly looking into these just to save some money, thus the refub’d. I figure they still have a 1 year warranty. Rebuild by Apple, not some other company, so they use the same parts. New battery (big plus in my book) and case. And I figure most people who turn these in after they broke them are usually people who just break the screen and buy the newest and most expensive “gotta have it” model.

I really will only be using this on the truck… for Square. I already have a PC and a laptop, so this will be my 3rd computer between me and my wife. Anything else I use it for will just be gravy. I can’t justify spending the extra money on a new model or a model with more GB’s or an ipad 3. I need to save all the money I can at this point in the build. I’m damn near broke! I figure I can buy a new one later once I get into business and make some money if this one is junk.

My question is: The ipad 1 is $299, the ipad 2 is $349. Should I spend the $50 extra to get the 2? Is there that much improvement in the processor and general design to justify the expense?  Hopefully I can get some advice from someone who’s owned both?
