We were treated to Melears as a birthday gift one time. Won’t be going back. Not as long as Southern Pit in Griffin remains open. Great pork and chicken, and the Brunswick/cornbread is quite good.
Griffin has couple of other surprises. Good City is a hole-in-the-wall Chinese place in the Kroger shopping center. The mama-san told me I should try her Mongolian Beef. First time ever for me…I now crave her take on that dish. Very meaty, moist steamed dumplings, too.
For Mediteranean fare, there’s Margo’s on the main drag. Margo is the proprietor and is a native of Lebanon. She serves a Lebanese favorite, kafta, that is lamb sausage with rice and veggies. Too, too awesome. Along with other Italian and Greek favs (which I’ve not tasted because I can’t drag myself away from the kafta) is the best lasagna I’ve ever had. And no…didn’t order it…just stole some off the wifey’s plate.
For the poster wanting to taste some Calabash, I’m not familiar with this cuisine, but have heard that the Calabash shrimp at Norcross Station is good. I can confirm that it’s good, just don’t know if it’s authentic Calabash or not.
