Just a couple of recent meals, lunches really since I’ve been hitting the sack very early.
This is the Egg Salad Cold Lunch Plate from the New York Deli and Coffee Shop, right in the heart of a Jewish neighborhood. It’s really just a neighborhood cafe but beloved by many. Veggies were all crisp and fresh, there’s black olives and a cup of their very creamy, slightly sweet, very, very minced coleslaw. And a bagel, from the kosher bagel shop next door (co-owned but the cafe is not kosher).
Not bad. A nice change of pace. But the real reason I went to this place was to try their chili cheese dog! And I was very pleasantly surprised and doubly surprised by how good their chili is. I’ll post about that in a hot dog thread which I have yet to start.
Now this place I went to for the French Dip, but they also had chili so I got some of that and will post in the chili thread.
This was an awesome sandwich – shaved tri-tip steak, gruyere, caramelized onions, wild mushrooms, and Dijon horseradish cream on a house baked baguette plus au jus. Common Bond has only been around since ’15 but is up to 5 locations, I think. Very popular. Started by a bunch of bread and pastry bakers but with a small breakfast and lunch menu, this is the first time I’ve ever been to one but I’ll be back. Not a strictly traditional FD but very good.
