Birria just means mess or stew, I think, traditionally made with goat. I found one article on MySA that turned out to be about a place in San Francisco???

I used to have an excellent birria stand near me; it was replaced by an Aldi. But apparently it’s found a new home in the Mahatma Ghandi district. That’s Houston for you. I’ll have to try to locate it down there.

It was served either as tacos or as consomme which was a bowl of the stew. The guy did nose-to-tail cookery so you’d find little bits and pieces of the animal that didn’t usually find its way onto plates or into bowls. Oh it was good.

Other places did birria on weekends, like menudo. I’d take birria any day but none of the others were nearly as good.

I’ll keep this in mind if I ever get over to SA.
