From a little cubby-hole-in-the-wall place near me called Antojos Locos:
Flautas con lechuga, tomate, queso fresco y crema; rellenas de tinga o papa (finely shredded seasoned chicken in this case). Very good. The fried, thin tortillas managed to retain some crispness, even flakiness, under all those moist ingredients. I’ll order this again and be in a bigger hurry to scrape all the toppings off.
Torta la Rusa – most of their tortas had milanesa which I don’t care for much; this one had what looked like an interesting list of ingredients – pierna ahumado (smoked pork), chorizo, jamon, pina, y queso derretido. There was also lettuce, tomato, mayo, and avocado.
The bread was stale. That was an awful lot of bread to get through. The ingredients just really didn’t do it for me; the total was less than the sum of the parts????? Maybe that’s the way to say it. I wouldn’t order this again. Threw away the bread on the second half and will make some sort of hash out of the other ingredients I think.
I’d never heard of queso derretido before. I thought it was going to be some exotic cheese from some part of Mexico I’m not familiar with. Doh!
