I was only familiar with the Schwegmann’s of the 80’s and 90’s during both business and pleasure trips to Louisiana. I never saw anything quite like it elsewhere in the US. I still remember the Schwegmann’s private label beer that was canned by the Dixie brewery. Back when baggage allowance on flights was generous, my suitcases would be filled with pounds of regional grocery items that I bought at Schwegmann’s, including lots of products from Baumer Foods.
I remember going into former Schwegmann’s after they became branches of A&P’s Sav-A-Center. My bonus card from the ShopRite supermarket in New Jersey used to work there in Louisiana. A&P of Montvale, NJ went belly-up in 2015.
