When I am on my Profile page the url reads (after Roadfood.com)

/user/bayoucitynosh/?redirect_to=https://roadfood.com/

I have tried a work around by editing the URL to include the user name of the person I’d like to PM, per your examples above, and deleting the ‘?redirect….,’ but when I hit enter the URL reverts to what was there originally and I get taken to my Profile page again.
