I’d like to add an addition to my 3/12/2020 Update of Failed Forum Software Migration post. (Addendum #3)
21. By reference, I would add to the list of issues those in the post directly above by BayouCityNosh dated March 18, 2020 at 1:25 AM EDST, message number 3030530. These are persistent, repeatable issues.
DISCUSSION: I’d like to get comments from moderator Tony Bad, since he has at least some moderator permissions, and may see some or all of what BayouCityNosh is seeing.
From BayouCityNosh’s entire post above, the first thing that crosses my mind is that his user profile is corrupted in storage. When played back, all sorts of unplanned, illogical, and unpredictable things occur.
For paragraph 1 in the post above, and this applies to my Internet Explorer 11, latest Firefox, and latest Microsoft Edge browsers, when I click on another member’s name when logged in, I get a new page whose URL ends in /user/XXXXXXXXX, where XXXXXXXXX is the screen name of the member. Spaces are shown as a plus sign (+). Here is what I see for the posters to this thread:
/user/david_nyc/
/user/bayoucitynosh/
/user/tj+jackson/
/user/ghaz/
For some of the other usual suspects:
/user/davidsanders/
/user/thelibrarian51/
/user/bonk/
/user/mr+chips/
Going further afield:
/user/jane+stern/
/user/michael+stern/
I have found that I if I try to send a PM message to another member without logging in, I have to log in twice, then go back to forums and find the message again. Lotsa work, is insane, but I gotta admit that Lisa did warn this new software has some features missing. Like good design.
For paragraph 2 in the above post, I see everything just as BayouCityNosh described.
I used the term “Send Messages here” for use in the failed graphic presentation. It is actually just labeled “Message” along with the outline of an envelope. I also do not see the “Message” button on my own user page if I am logged in. I do see it if I am logged out, have cleared the cookies on my browser, and then click on a post that I wrote myself.
For paragraphs 5 through 9 in the above post, I do not have any of those elements. I saw those items posted in an old thread, found I did not have them, but they did not seem to cause any problems. To me, it sounds like the kind of stuff you have permissions for when you are logged in as an admin, moderator, SYSOP, or as another Big Man on Campus.
Fourteen hours ago, I sent a Fox Test message to Ghaz in reply to his question in message #3030528. When I was preparing my comments for paragraph 1 above, I noticed there was no longer a blue message button on Ghaz’ page. I just went back to this issue. Poking around, I went into my messages and clicked on the message to Ghaz. I got a message that I was now blocked from sending messages to Ghaz. If I annoyed Ghaz, for instance if the system sent an email to Ghaz, and he receives his emails on his cell phone, and if the cell phone woke him up when this message was received, I am truly sorry. It was unintentional. I didn’t connect all those dots yet at that point.
Let’s sum this up and just say:
21: The PM function is broke and doesn’t work.
