Restaurants in Rapid City, SD

Let’s be frank: nobody goes to Rapid City, South Dakota for its culinary charms. But if you’re here and hungry and looking for a meal that’s colorful, do check out The Mud Hole of the Black Hills, a thrift store with a cafe inside. The cafe serves what’s called a Sugar Crystal Waffle, basically a dense, bronze, vanilla Liege-style waffle with crunchy bits of sugar in the batter. There is excellent coffee in this town: at Essence of Coffee and at Harriet & Oak Cafe and Roaster. And — surprise! — there’s damn good Louisiana cooking at a saloon called Jambonz.
