Restaurants in Newport, OR

Eating in Newport, Oregon, is all about seafood. Along the waterfront of Yaquina Bay where fishing boats are moored is a string of restaurants, plain and fancy, where you can have grilled razor clams and eggs for breakfast then tuck into hearty clam chowder, fish & chips, Dungeness crab, and oysters every which way. Out on the South Coast highway are market/cafes where the seafood is utterly fresh and the service is ultra-casual. At al fresco picnic tables, travelers feast on salmon burgers, salmon candy, smoked fish, and Dungeness crab. Don’t overlook tuna in these places. It is as different from ordinary canned supermarket tuna as Dover sole is from a fish stick. Hook and line caught albacore is filleted and packed raw into the cans and then cooked, a process that supersaturates the meat with its own natural oils, intensifying its ocean flavor and exponentially increasing its luxury.
