Za’atar is a spice blend of oregano, thyme, and toasted sesame seeds. Combined with cheese (feta, usually) on a flatbread or East Indian naan, it is an appetizer found in restaurants that offer Middle Eastern cuisine. Some versions include za’atar baked into the flatbread itself, but it is more common to find it sprinkled on top along with the cheese.
