Classic Hot Dogs

The hot dog is a multiple-personality dish. Most cities and regions have their own unique way of cooking, dressing, and bunning one. The dog itself can be beef, pork, veal, chicken, or some combination of them. It can be boiled, griddle-cooked, charcoal-roasted, or deep fried.  While mustard is the most common condiment, possible complements include relish, pickles, onions (raw or grilled), cole slaw, chili, cheese, and — everywhere except Chicago — ketchup.
