Pecan Pie

Pecan pies are an indulgent dessert everywhere, most notably in the South, but they’re at their best in Texas, which produces some 30 million pounds of pecans each year. The most basic pecan pie is little more than nuts, butter, eggs, and Karo syrup, but blue ribbons also are earned by adding peanut butter, maple syrup, caramel, or butterscotch. Derby pie is a well-known Kentucky variation that includes bourbon and chocolate chips and is traditionally made with walnuts rather than pecans.
