Maple Bacon Donut
The pairing of sweet and savory in a single dish is nowhere more felicitous than a good maple bacon donut. Usually, it is a plain cake donut blanketed with maple frosting onto which are pressed either little pieces of bacon or whole strips of it. Whole strips provide more complete bacon satisfaction, which is why the long john makes such a good foundation for the maple + bacon duet. Maple bacon long johns (as well as donuts) are most abundant in the Pacific Northwest.
