Flan

On the dessert menu of sit-down Hispanic restaurants, flan is caramel custard. It is baked in individual cups in which the custard and its caramel syrup are layered, custard atop caramel. As the baked cup is turned over and its ingredients decanted onto a plate, the caramel becomes syrup on top.
