Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin is unheard of outside the candy stores of Buffalo, New York (which happens to have some of the finest chocolatiers in the country). Buffalonians with a sweet tooth are crazy for it. Every bit as addictive as the Nickel City’s distinctive Sponge Candy, this unique confection is a chocolate cluster studded with hunks of cashew nut and laced with shreds of toasted coconut around a mooshy marshmallow filling. Charlie Chaplin is sheer hedonistic opulence as its marshmallow and chocolate melt into a soft sea of sweetness around the butter-rich cashews and tropical luxury of coconut. Legend says it was named for the silent film comedian because he once convinced a Buffalo chocolatier to combine his favorite ingredients into one candy. Exactly when this happened, as well as why and the identity of the chocolatier remain mysteries.
