Breaded Hamburger

A breaded hamburger is not a burger that is battered and fried. It is a hamburger in which the beef is augmented by breadcrumbs. It is an economical item left over from Depression days when precious beef was stretched by adding breadcrumbs as a filler. It is nearly extinct on restaurant menus, but Snappy Lunch of Mount Airy, North Carolina, still serves it — an homage to early days.
