About Cuisine

Delicatessen is not synonymous with Deli, the latter being any sort of quick-serve sandwich shop. A delicatessen is a Jewish (but not necessarily Kosher) restaurant that has a long glass case displaying smoked fish and cold cuts. There may or may not be table service, but you can always count on the staff being cranky and irritable. Highlights of most delicatessen menus include chopped liver, pastrami and corned beef, hopefully available on excellent rye bread with pickles on the side.
