About Cuisine

Shared tables and traditional Dixie cooking are typical of great boarding house meals, which are all-you-can-eat propositions. While most such places no longer actually have boarders, an old-time communal spirit defines them. At the erstwhile Mendenhall Hotel in Mississippi, a hand-stitched sampler on the wall expressed the boarding house philosophy: “Eat ‘Til it Ouches.”
