The Fort

The Fort is in the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains.  The lights of Downtown Denver are a half-hour drive away. Constructed of adobe brick, the restaurant is a replica of an 18th-century fort. It includes a tent, stone-based campfire, and trading post that doubles as a souvenir shop. The only thing that outdoes The Fort’s tasteful Southwestern décor is the meal itself.

What should I eat at The Fort?

Each meal starts with a breadbasket that includes mini-pumpkin muffins and ciabatta rolls dusted with Southwestern spices. For appetizers, consider an order of peanut butter-stuffed jalapenos. Also, the creamy texture of the peanut butter coupled with the spicy pickled jalapenos bring out the flavor sensations. If pickled jalapenos aren’t your thing, consider buffalo empanadas. These come with two types of salsa that are “spicy and spicier”.  The salsa has a citrus finish.

Think game and steak for the main course. Buffalo stew comes in a mini-cast iron kettle. It is loaded with buffalo tips and served in a rich demi-glace with just enough green chiles. For something more conventional, the 14-ounce buffalo strip steak is also exceptional.

Finally, The Fort is more expensive than a typical Roadfood restaurant, it’s well worth it for a taste of the Old West. *Original Post by Dale Fine*
