Frog Hollow Farm - San Francisco, CA

Frog Hollow Farm mainly is in the business of selling fruit. Beautiful pears, peaches, apples, nectarines, plums, and grapes come from their 120-acre organic farm on the Sacramento River Delta. You can buy the fruit at the Frog Hollow Market in the Ferry Building, and its freshness puts waxy supermarket fare to shame.

It is not huge, but its flavor is gigantic. The cherry tartlet was set out for sale alongside tartlets loaded with mixed fruits, peach with frangipane, and sweetened risotto. The only thing that could possibly be more satisfying is Frog Hollow's fruit fresh from the tree.

Even easier to eat than whole fruit, the fruit salad sold at the Ferry Building cafe was utterly ripe, pure-fruit sweet, and as virtuous as nature itself.

This fragile-skinned savory turnover was filled with ham and gruyere cheese.

Frog Hollow started as a peach farm and still is best known for its peaches. Summer means peach popsicles are in season, too.

Frog Hollow Farm is but one of dozens of enticing food stalls in the Ferry Building. There are a handful of tables out in the hallway to which you can take food and coffee.
