Since the initial review was written, the Candelight has nearly doubled its sized, taking over an adjacent house for take-out orders only, making the original site a little less hectic if you are dining in, or want an order to go (no more reaching over/between folks dining at the bar).

Their wings are indeed the best in Westchester County (and I lived in Buffalo, and had wings from the Anchor Bar; these are on par). Candlelight's onion rings are winners (huge, thick, bracelet-sized, in a tempura-like batter), as are the fries with melted cheese and jalapenos. It's often a toss-up between wings or their version of a Philly cheesesteak (with a spicy red sauce). If we were getting take-out, we would have to always get an extra Philly cheesesteak for my boyfriend to scarf down on the way home BEFORE we ate!

A close view of a sauced wing gives some idea of why wings are so popular. The irresistible combo of chicken fat and fat used to fry it -- both contained in every chewy-crunchy bite of skin -- is so well abetted by the hot glaze in which they are enveloped.

With a specialty of chicken wings, Candlelight Inn knows its way around a fry kettle. While these crinkle-cuts are nothing surprising, they are expertly cooked to a point of addictive crispness. Gravy is available, as is cheese, but I wouldn't want to minimize these spuds' good crunch. (Note: this bowl arrived brimful, but I forgot to take a picture until halfway through.)

This is the sort of restaurant you could pass by dozens of times and never even wonder if it's worth going in. The rugged plainness makes it all the more appealing to the connoisseur of unpretentious eateries that serve something special.
