Timothy's

2974 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, CT - (203) 366-7496
Posted By Michael Stern on 4/23/2015 4:46:00 AM
Timothy's no longer uses the salt-and-ice churners that stand in the front window, but the ice cream made here remains classic. It is simple, rich-but-not-cloying, sweet-but-not-too-sweet ice cream; ice cream that is, in our book, just about perfect.

Several dozen different flavors are made in regular rotation. Among the must-eats are Sweet Cream (the purest ice cream of them all), Black Rock (French Vanilla studded with chocolate covered almonds), Dutch Chocolate, Peach, Oreo Cookie, and Banana. Any flavor can be souped up with mix-ins of any kind.

If you choose a sundae, you can have it in a paper cup or in an edible waffle-cup made in one of the pair of waffle irons behind the counter. (Waffle cones also are available.) Sundaes are spectacular, blanketed with silky fudge and whipped cream that is scooped from the big silver bowl in which it is whipped fresh throughout the day.

Accommodations include a slew of indoor tables and a row of plastic chairs outside on the sidewalk, where you can lick your cone or spoon into your cup as life along Fairfield Avenue passes by.

Here's the line-up of mix-ins that can be combined with any kind of ice cream you choose. The white marble counter at the left of the photo is where the mixing gets done.

Timothy's flavors range from plain to fancy; each is a masterpiece.

Timothy's has tables scattered about for serious sitting down and spooning into sundaes and banana splits, but many customers get cones to eat on the stroll or in the car.
