Port-A-Pit BBQ

119 Marshall Forest Lane, Statesville, NC - (704) 872-9778
Word of warning: Port-A-Pit is open only on Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 7pm. During those precious hours, it can get mighty crowded. We very much enjoyed a chopped pork sandwich, which comes wrapped with a cup of sauce on the side. Pre-sauce, the meat has a nice fresh, slightly smoky flavor but it is dry. The sauce makes this pork blossom.

Port-A-Pit serves nearly every part of the pig but the oink. These fried pig skins are an irresistible snack, whatever the flavor.

One of the tastiest Brunswick stews around -- loaded with meat and vegetable. Like everything else at Port-A-Pit, it is served in a disposable container.

Not the most festive entryway, this is the door that leads to some wonderful meals inside a veritable barbecue factory.

Port-A-Pit is best known as a caterer. But if you are a traveler who happens by on Wednesday or Friday, you're in luck.
