List is a sham without Birmingham Al on it. Dozens of hot dog shops are planted across the cityscape many of which are decades old. Each one features its own secret sauce recipe handed down through the generations of owners. Criminal exclusion.

I still say that the Upstate New York 'necklace' of Syracuse/Rochester/Buffalo is a highly underrated section of Hot Dog America. Each of those cities is home to meat packers which are second to none in the quality of their dogs. Sahlens, Zweigles and Hoffman all make a dog which does not NEED unnecessary toppings or fancy sauces - although they certainly are good with them. Whats nice is that, thanks to Wegman's, Zweigles and Hoffman get nice exposure outside of the area. I was in a Wegmans in New Jersey, and happened to see the dairy manager by the hot dog counter, and asked him if the Zweigles and Hoffmans actually sold, and he was emphatic in saying that they sell VERY well - in New Jersey!

Although I cast my vote for Connecticut, I wouldn't argue over New Jersey being No. 1. But Chicago? Chicago is a one-note hot dog town and as far as I'm concerned it's a sour note. C'mon. A pickle, tomato, and celery salt on a hot dog?

Chicago??? New Jersey is still #1 in my mind...fried and sauced. If I wanted salad with my hot dog I would order one !!!
