A Food Weekend To Remember

We think Memphis is one of the top food cities in America and Arkansas is one of the best states for a road trip. Both of those ratings will be tested in what promises to be an utterly delicious eating tour on Friday and Saturday, October 18 & 19, 2013.

We Start With Fried Chicken

Day One, Friday, begins with the Memphis fried chicken that wowed visitors to the 2013 Foodfest: Gus's World Famous. If you haven't been to this place before (it is pictured above), be prepared for a true revelation. If you already have eaten Gus's, you know why we are so excited about this special meal they will be preparing just for us.

Then We Tackle Some of the World's Best Barbecue

The day in Memphis of course features plenty of barbecue: pig sandwiches, ribs, bologna, even barbecue spaghetti and barbecue salad. We'll be hitting what many consider to be the best smoke house in town – Cozy Corner. Proprietor Desiree Robinson has long been a friend of Roadfood and said she is eager to greet us. We'll also be checking out Que at the Germantown Commissary and at Central Barbecue. And somewhere in the middle of that, we'll vary the menu with a visit to the Cupboard, which is known for its southern-style vegetables and superb pies.

Cheese Dip, More Great BBQ, Steak, and Tamales. And Pie Galore.

Speaking of pies, of course we will be eating plenty on Saturday in Arkansas, which connoisseurs consider to be home to some of the nation's finest pies. In addition to eating more fantastic barbecue in Hot Springs – at Stubby's and McClard's – we will be spending time in Little Rock as special guests of the National Cheese Dip Festival and Competition. And we will be dining at the magnificent Doe's Eat Place.

Please Join Us, October 18-19

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, June 26, at noon EST. They first will be available only to Roadfood Insiders. So please book you space ASAP! (Well-priced flights still are available, too.) And watch for Stephen's announcement of a good hotel deal in Memphis for tour participants.

Could we be guided by a GPS device if only as a backup to driver's knowledge of where we are suppose to be headed during this trip.
