Maryland Crab Cakes

Until you've had a crab cake in Maryland, it is impossible to know how good one can be. Once you've had a crab cake made from lump meat of the Chesapeake Bay blue crab, no other will satisfy. This trip goes from Baltimore down the Eastern Shore.

Obrycki's
Faidley Seafood
Narrows
The Crab Claw
Suicide Bridge Restaurant
Obrycki's - Baltimore , MD
When you sit down at Obrycki’s, the waiter will ask if you are interested in crabs. If you nod “yes,” he will spread the table with brown paper and tell you what size they are today and how much you’ll be paying. For large ones, the lprice will be on the far side of a $50 bill -- not a cheap meal, but a spectacularly good one, and a Chesapeake Bay classic all adventurous eaters need to try.
Faidley Seafood - Baltimore , MD
Faidley's crab cakes are without question the lumpiest, which is a wonderful thing because the lumps are sweet pieces of Chesapeake Bay crab seasoned with Old Bay bound together by so little filler that there seems to be none. They are made by hand and grilled to order at the Faidley stand in Baltimore's temptatious Lexington Market; also available via mail order at Faidley's website.
Narrows - Grasonville , MD
A lovely restaurant overlooking the water, The Narrows offers a wide menu that includes steak and chicken and vegetarian dishes, but the main attractions for those in search of regional food are crab soup, crab cakes and fried oysters.
The Crab Claw - St. Michaels , MD
With its roots in a mid-century wholesale crab business by the water, The Crab Claw restaurant has evolved into one of the premier places to indulge in Maryland hot blue crabs and cold beer.
Suicide Bridge Restaurant - Hurlock , MD
A charming restaurant with a waterside view, Suicide Bridge offers a full menu of Eastern Shore seafood, including some of the region's best jumbo lump crab cakes.
