We just learned from reader vhb247 that Magnolia's, the small cafe across the street from the Patterson, NY train station, has closed. They apparently shut down last year at the end of October. The space is now occupied by a restaurant called Front Street Cafe. Michael Stern, in his review of Magnolia's, expressed particular fondness for the sandwiches: "The regular repertoire includes a Local Hero portabello mushroom and eggplant sandwich on focaccia bread and the “Ludington” cheese and tomato sandwich on hearth bread (named after Revolutionary War heroine Sybil Luddington)." We'll archive the review tomorrow.

I've got a better idea! Don't archive the review. DON'T! Leave it be with a CLOSED notice!

I'd also like to see a section of site reserved for reviews like these but, until that happens, we really have to archive them. People do visit the Roadfood database to find places to eat and we don't want to lead anyone astray.

Bruce, rather than be a really remarkably unruly and uncouth guest, I've responded at my blog at length, because this is such a very, very wrong policy:

I read your blog entry, Grant, and much of it makes sense. A couple of points: we say archive, rather than purge, because the reviews/photos remain on the database. If Roadfood ever has the time and inclination to make those reviews viewable, they're all there, ready and waiting. About Pilgreen's - that was my fault. In preparation for a recent trip to Atlanta I wanted to read the old Pilgreen's review. There's no way (that I know of) for me to do that without reactivating the review, which I did. I forgot to re-archive it when I was done. And then it got snatched up as Roadfood of the Day. When I noticed what happened, I archived the review again, leading to the dead link.
