A fire yesterday which began in the smokehouse of the Wahoo Locker Plant in Wahoo, NE (see the Roadfood.com review) took 80 local firefighters over two hours to extinguish. The Wahoo Fire Chief figured the Wahoo Locker is a total loss but there were, thankfully, no injuries. The Wahoo Locker produces the famed Wahoo Wiener, the recipe for which they obtained about 15 years ago from the now-closed OK Market in Wahoo. Owner Charlie Emswiler recently purchased the nearby Bern building supply lot, which he was remodeling for a planned move in the fall, so the fire will not mean the end for the Wahoo Locker Plant or Wahoo Wieners.
