Crown Candy Kitchen of St. Louis was founded in 1913 by the Karandzieff family (see the review). The neighborhood, and business, has had its ups and downs over the intervening years but, lately, both are looking up. The family is celebrating their century in business all year (they don't actually know the exact date they originally opened), with some sort of special event planned for the spring or summer. In the meantime, we think a splendid way to commemorate the anniversary is with a chocolate banana malt and one of their famous BLTs.

I agree. It's a wonderful, timeless place; reminds me of the soda shop in The Music Man. And they have delicious black walnut ice cream, a real treat.

Recommended by locals, the Heart-Stopping BLT had nearly a pound of bacon and fed three hungry adults! Worth the wait.
