Pound Cake
The cover feature of the October 2012 issue of Saveur is called 101 Classic Recipes, and includes two submitted by Jane and Michael Stern: Elvis Presley's Pound Cake and Sweet Potato Pie. The pound cake recipe was a favorite of his, as baked by his friend Janelle McComb. It includes two sticks of butter, a cup of cream, seven eggs... uh, this is not a diet recipe, but you knew that as soon as you saw The King's name attached to it. The pie comes by way of the late Mrs. Bonner of Crawfordville, GA, and is notable for the total absence of spices, and just a bit of vanilla, to let the natural flavor of the sweets come through. The issue isn't yet available online.
