CFS
Threadgill's World Headquarters on Riverside Drive in Austin, TX just signed a new lease with their landlord. There was some concern that the land was becoming too valuable for Threadgill's to remain, but somehow everyone came to an agreement. As Threadgill's owner Eddie Wilson said, "Low rent, cold beer and cheap pot may have built this town, but it takes a different formula to make it these days." See the Roadfood.com review of the Threadgill's on North Lamar.

The sad decline of Threadgills has been narrated across many channels. The once proud institution is now in the can opener business. Austin is awash in the go local movement with area farm's bounty being featured at dozens of local cafes. Sadly, Threadgill's persists in prying open #10 cans of whatever they can lay their hands on and calling it a day.

Don't know what channels this "chef" is watching, but Threadgill's is an institution and doesn't deserve the sort of lies from a "chef" who probably is a disgruntled former employee. The "go local movement" is a PR stunt by a few high-end restaurants run by organic types, but most of us are more than happy to eat at Threadgill's. It's where it's at!

Austin's "go local" movement is hardly a "stunt" it's an attempt to keep the food service industry money in our community where it will do some good. By keeping Central Texas' hard working farmers and ranchers in business. Not Sysco, not Ben E. Keith, not US Foods. TEXAS. I've been working in and covering the Austin food scene for 15 years and while I've never had the pleasure of working at Threadgill's I've had friends who have. It's no secret that Threadgills is a can opener restaurant. I prefer to eat where I know my money is going to utilized by people who live and work in Central Texas. That's where it's at!
