Maple Croissant
We've been yearning for some triple-berry toast ever since we included Michael Stern's photo in one of our annual Roadfood calendars. We finally made it to Yachats on the Oregon coast, and the coffee house known as The Green Salmon but, alas, there was no berry toast to be had (see the Roadfood.com review). The maple icing-topped croissant above had to stand in for the toast. This is a croissant in name only. It's sweet, weighty, and quite satisfying in its own right with a good cup of coffee. Or, in our case, a latte and hot chocolate.

Grilled Cheese
We also enjoyed something they called a Grilled Cheese Italiano, which is a triple cheese sandwich made with mozzarella, cheddar, and parm, along with pesto and sliced tomato, on sourdough bread. Good, although we didn't quite get the massive side pile of the sort of hot pickled sliced peppers one finds back east as a hoagie garnish. Oh well, easily ignored.

When Mariton and I arrived in Yachats, we couldn't find the Green Salmon. She finally convinced me to pull into a shopping center and ask. A man coming out of the little grocery store said, "You mean that Green Salmon?" and pointed directly across the street. A little embarrasing and I know I could have found it on my own if given a few more minutes.

Oh, and we loved everything we tried, especially my mint cocoa and her orange tea. A wonderful break from the road.
