Veg Chili
In 2005, Mike Behrend was slinging chicken-fried steaks at Lulu's in the meat-happy town of San Antonio, TX. Then he became a vegetarian. What to do? He sold Lulu's and opened Green Vegetarian, SA's first vegetarian restaurant. Scott Andrews of San Antonio Current was drawn to Green Vegetarian by the same forces that draw many non-vegetarians to the eatery (including Michael Stern of Roadfood.com): as a restorative from an episode of meat-binging. What he found was food good enough to merit return visits, and he writes about it here. There's also an accompanying interview with owner Mike Behrend.
